WHY the GBS Zero?

The GBS Zero offers something no other Australian manufacturer does. By selling kits that are virtually COMPLETE and come with 90% of all components you won't need to be searching for parts that are becoming increasingly rare. It becomes a much simpler job to build a car!
The Zero's kit comes with more components, more bang for your buck! Our basic kit comes with every mechanical component (apart from the engine and gearbox) that you need to assemble and build the car. Pick your own seats, wheels etc to make your Zero personal and to perhaps save a bit of cash! We can also supply them.
During my build we will be documenting and videoing how to assemble components to make building your car as easy as possible. More information on Clubmans is available on the Products or Overview pages.

How much does it cost?

Kit prices range from $10000 to $16000. See the Kits page for more information on what each kit contains.
We also have an options list.

What will it look like when finished?

The Zero looks much like the Caterham 7.
It has a two tone effect with the GRP nosecone and cycle guards which come in a variety of colours and the Silver panels. Of course these panels can be painted to match the fibreglass parts as well. You build it so YOU can decide!

What do you need on top of the kit?

There are three kits each with differing components.  All kits need an engine and gearbox of your choice.  The Basic Special allows you to choose wheels, seats, steering wheel, weather gear etc.  The Plus kit contains 80% that you will need except seats, weather gear, wiper arm set, some brake line components and sealants. The Superspec comes with almost everything that you will need, engine and gearbox are about the only thing required to complete it. See the Kits page for more information.

Can you supply finished cars?

We can supply a limited number of finished cars to order.  Lead time would be approximately 6 months. Price will vary based on engine type etc.

What engine and gearbox can I put in?

There are several possibilities for the engine and gearbox. Engines need to be mount north-south to suit the chassis design.  Many donor engines are east-west, but can be converted to mount north-south.

See the Engine Choices page for more information on types of engines.

Generally clubbies use manual gearboxes. The MX-5 manual gearbox provides a readily available, slick manual gearbox that will attach to the Duratec style engines that suit clubbies.

Other choices include the Ford Type 9 for the Duratec engine. Toyota T50 for the Toyota 4AGE 20V, Honda and Nissan make rear wheel drive gearboxes for their S2000 and 200SX respectively.

Sequential, or helical cut gears are available for Type 9 gearboxes to increase strength and quality. They range from $1500-$3500.

Can they be registered?

All kits are configured to allow registration provided an appropriate engine is chosen (to pass emission standards) and it is built to meet all Australian Design Rules concerning Individually Constructed Vehicles.

What tools or mechanical knowledge do I need?

This will depend on your choice of kit.  Normal basic mechanical tools (spanners, hammers, etc) will allow the car to be built.  Some basic mechanical knowledge is required, but help is always available from us and/or clubby forums.

How long will delivery be and how does it work?

On request, a quotation will be issued, and order confirmed.  A deposit will be required at time of order.  The balance of monies will be required before the kit is shipped from the UK.

Your kit will be made to order and shipped to Australia.  This normally takes around 2-3 months from placement of order.

Can I insure it and how much will it be for insurance?

Insurance is available to cover the shipping of the kit from the UK to Australia.  Costs vary and may range from $500 to $800 plus excess if shipment is damaged.  Insurance can be include in your request for a quotation.

On road comprehensive insurance can be bought from Shannons Insurance for approximately the same price as an MX-5. You will have to check with other insurers as to their policies and make sure they understand what they are insuring.

Can I arrange a test drive?

Test drives can be arranged.  There are clubby meets on a regular basis and these also provide opportunities to see and test drive the sports car. The demonstrator will also be completed soon and test drives of that can be organised. Test drive events may also be arranged.

What support do you offer?

We provide a range of support including discussion on choice of kit, sourcing of donor parts, engines and gearboxes, assistance with assembly and guidance through the registration process.
